Vlora and Fier bypasses, the first phase of the tender process has now been

The first stage in the tender process for the construction of the Fier Bypass and Vlora Bypass road segments has now concluded.

The two projects have been left unfinished since the National Road Authority terminated the contracts of the previous companies who suffered delays in their work failed to meet the required deadlines of the project.

The Ministry of Infrastructure launched the new tender process following the contract terminations and advised that more than 40 companies have submitted their bids within the legal timeframe.

Now, the National Road Authority must review each bid and determine eligibility of the tenders in what is known as the pre-qualification phase. This is to be completed by November 30th.

Once the tenders are confirmed as eligible, they will be referred to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, who will announce those companies that will process to the second phase of the tender process.

The Bypass of Vlore will connect the Levan-Vlora Highway with the national Vlora-Saranda road, spanning a total of 29km.

The initial contract was terminated due to problems with the contractors, who after 24 months had completed only 12% of the required work.

The Bypass of Fier will see construction of an interurban highway between the Fier and Levan, spanning approximately 22km.

The Fier Bypass also requires the construction of 3 bridges, each 80m in length, across the Seman River, Hoxhare Channel and Pojan Channel.

Work had previously begun on this road segment, with 55% of the project completed, however again in this case, the previous contract was terminated as the contractor failed to maintain the required pace of work.
