Vetting in politics, Basha: Let's discus the proposal

The ruling Socialist Party's decision on the proposal for vetting of politicians will form the basis that will determine the behavior of the opposition in institutions, as well as with the upcoming local elections.

This was the message delivered by the head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, who accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of refusing to break political ties with crime, adding that this is the main mechanism that keeps Rama in power.

The Democrats do not have it in mind to accept Prime Minister Rama's request for this issue to take the opinion of Venice, calling it an alibi to push and avoid the process.

The DP parliamentary group has formally asked the head of the assembly to convene the legislative council and the law commission on Friday to introduce the opposition's proposal to the parliament.

The democrats are yet to explain which institutions will control the politicians, though Basha says it is important for the Socialist Party to discuss the pros and cons.

In response to the SP's previous statements, that the Special Anti-Corruption Structure and the National Investigation Bureau are already tasked with vetting of politicians, Basha responded that his proposal forms the referral mechanism that will provide evidenced to these institutions.
