Unpaid tax obligations, General Tax Directory collected 13.5 million lek

The General Tax Directory has been able to collect some of the unpaid tax obligations from 2016; through the realization of orders blocking bank accounts.

The General Tax Directory collected 13.5 million lek in old unpaid obligations, with 47% of cases having blocking orders issued by the tax directory to debtor bank accounts collecting 6.2 million lek.

A further 34% were sent notifications by the tax directory, warning them of impending security measures if they do not pay their obligations, resulting in the collection of 4.5 million lek; while only 7% of debts were able to be recovered simply by general notification.

Recovery values also include over 1 million lek from seized assets and 462,202 lek gathered from the orders to block business products at the custom points.

According to the General Tax Directory, the amalgamation of unpaid tax obligations in the last 2-5 years has resulted in the total amount of debt registered for 2016.

While most of these debts come from Value Added taxes at 52 million lek, there is 35 million lek from the income tax, and 14 million lek from health insurances.

The International Monetary Fund has offered to help the General Tax Directory, due to the high level of debt. The IMF has also offered organizational and managerial help. The total amount of unpaid obligations for 2016 stands at 147 billion lek.
