SP will not retreat, ready for campaign

Prime Minister Edi Rama said the local elections will not be withdrawn.

On May 31, the Socialist Party will open the electoral campaign with 61 candidates for the positions of mayor and councillor at the Palace of Congress.

Prime Minister Rama has presented the program during the parliamentary group meeting, where he has asked that meetings be organized to convince citizens to vote for the SP, as well as to warn of the risk they will be taking if they attempt to harm the local election process.

One of the points to be discussed at meetings with the electorates will be the abolition of the right to enter the United States or European Union countries if convicted of having violated the June 30th election processes.

During Saturday's meeting with mayoral candidates, Edi Rama issued a message to MPs not to be provoked by opposition supporters, and to report any potential incidences.

The group meeting also raised discussions on employment, where it was asked to give up party employment and to eliminate arrogance in any government chain.

The Prime Minister also spoke at the meeting for co-governance.

“I believe that on the 30th of June, we will create the opportunity to enter into a new phase of management of complaints for municipalities, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

“What we will realize is direct access to each mayor of the same quality.

“Elections are not made for those who are elected but those who choose; and those who choose on June 30 will have direct access to each mayor to whom he or she has given their vote,” said Rama.

The launch of the majority campaign comes at the height of political tensions.

The opposition will hold the 6th national protest on the 25th of May, and has announced of the intention to escalate the action moving forward by asking for the creation of a transitory government, removing Edi Rama, to organize free elections.
