Raising Costs of Fruits and Vegetables, Off-Season Products "Banned" For Consumers

Raising Costs of Fruits and Vegetables, Off-Season Products "Banned"

The tradition continues to become even worse this New Year Eve!

Prices are continually rising in the markets of Durrës as the night of New Year's Eve approaches.

Off-season products are considered banned by some of the citizens.

High prices and low income among citizens year after year means it becomes even more expensive to put food on the table this New Years Eve.

“It is very expensive, even for those who think it is not. On New Year's, everyone will have to spend and buy,” said a citizen.

Traders themselves acknowledge the rise in prices, but they argue there is a lack of domestic production.

“Tomatos costs 1 thousand lekë per kilogram, it is not too expensive. Potatos has moved up a little in price, 80 Lekë per kilogram. Onions have gone up to 120 lekë per kilo. These prices are very weak and we have no buyers,” said traders.

Under these conditions, traders of Durrës warn that the price of vegetables and fruits will continue to raise.
