Prison festivities, inmates celebrate with raki

The Ministry of Justice have issued a media statement regarding the publication of a concerning photograph to social media.

The image depicted some inmates of the St Koll Prison celebrating with prohibited items inside the prison on the 25th of December, 2017.

The Ministry of Justice declared they were informed by the Directorate of the Internal Control Service of Prisons regarding the publication.

According to the ministry, from the preliminary actions, it turned out that the photo was made in St. Koll's Prison in Lezha and was published by the persons imprisoned themselves.

The Internal Control Service of Prisons, after conducting the relevant investigative actions, came to the conclusion that the legal provisions in force as well as the General Regulation of Prisons have been violated by the prison officers.

The ICSP went on to add that the actions of the prison officers endangered the security of the institution.

Given the severity of the situation, punitive measures have been taken against 12 employees of the prison, among them the Chief Prison Office, the Information Specialist, and the Chair and members of the Security Group.

Having now concluded the investigations into the matter, the Ministry of Justice advised that the 12 prison employees will face criminal charges for the offences "Abuse of Duty" and/or "Failure to take measures to stop an illegal situation".
