To get the OSCE chairmanship in 2020, Albania must have the engagement of all parties in the country and not just the majority.

The OSCE Secretary General, Thomas Greminger, during a conference with the Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, asked for dialogue to resolve the political crisis, without violating the Constitution.

During the joint press conference, Greminger said that Albania should role model and demonstrate that dialogue is the best solution for conflicts.

“Albania must demonstrate that the best way to resolve conflicts is through dialogue. We undoubtedly follow the political developments in Albania closely.

“We hope that the deadlock will be resolved soon. I believe that the solution will be found internally and for this we encourage dialogue.

“It is necessary for all actors to engage the functioning of democracy in the country.

“The OSCE is ready to provide support, but no solution is sustainable unless all actors are involved,” said Greminger.

The Albanian diplomat, on behalf of the government, said that the majority is ready for dialogue, but without violating the legitimacy of the existing institutions.

Referring to accusations and denunciations by the opposition, and the decrees of President regarding the June 30 elections, the OSCE official asked for a decision from the Constitutional Court.

The Secretary General demanded respect of the standards for media freedom, following the criticisms made by the OSCE on the anti-defamation law.

Thomas Greminger also held meetings with Prime Minister Edi Rama and the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta.
