Opposition Protest, Basha: 16 march the biggest protest yet

The opposition protest in front of the parliament today concluded without major incident.

The DP chair, Lulzim Basha and the chair of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Monika Kryemadhi, joined the participants gathered in front of the Assembly Hall shortly after Prime Minister Rama concluded his speech from the podium.

MPs who rejected their mandates were the first to address the protesters with a series of speeches.

After them, Monika Kryemadhi announced that the further protests will take place concurrently with every session of the Assembly, before declaring that Rama has failed with all of his governing policies.

“Rama has failed; he has failed with his policies, with his promise for new jobs. Rama also failed with high taxes, with the Police force. The police accept that they have violated the Law and have violated the Albanian citizens,” said Kryemadhi.

For DP chair, Lulzim Basha the final countdown for the Majority is fast approaching.

“The united people have completed the final stage of the process of exterminating the Crime Assembly. The united citizens have the merit of igniting the hope and faith of every Albanian for the coming tomorrow.

“Today we have brought the criminal and illegal parliament to light. The only political solution is the early departure of Edi Rama.

“I want to make a call to all Albanian citizens to take part in another decisive act to open the gates of hope, open the gates to Europe, and to conduct early free and fair elections without Edi Rama and his criminals.

“The March 16th protest will be decisive for the removal of Edi Rama, for the liberation of Albania, for our future, to liberate elections, the economy and even to liberate the Socialist Party itself.

“This protest will unite us three times more than the 16 February protest,” said Lulzim Basha.

The opposition's protest did play host to some escalated actions, with heavy objects thrown at police officers who surrounded the perimeter of the Assembly.

Even though it started without tensions, the protesters did not refrain throughout, with some also setting car types alight.

Amidst the clouds of smoke, the protesters set fire also to caricatures drawn of Prime Minister Edi Rama before throwing pieces of wood towards police officers.

Meanwhile, protesters also threw firecrackers towards the premises of the parliament and with vuvuzelas in their hands; they demanded the departure of the prime minister.

As plenary session drew to a close, Basha invited the participants to address to the Central Election Commission where the lists of candidates were submitted for the withdrawal of the mandate.

After that, from the headquarters of Democratic Party, Basha invited attendees to the next protest that will take place on the 16th of March.
