Opposition Apologizes Media

The Democratic Party and its allies organized a roundtable on Media Freedom, meanwhile the Anti-defamation law was being discussed at the Assembly.

Lulzim Basha apologized on behalf of the Democratic Party for the mistakes that this political force has made in the past in relation to the media.

Lulzim Basha and Monika Kryemadhi assured journalists and media associations that upon assuming power, that the law would be canceled.

“The pressures of this government against everyone is unacceptable. For the Democratic Party and everyone else, this is a red line that should not be crossed. It is a declared war against the media and against journalism. This is degeneration, for the tremendous pressure that will go to the Assembly.

“Our aim is to give the country all the instruments to close the transition door to media freedom and move toward Europe.

“I will take the necessary steps at home and abroad to suspend this arbitrary measure. The third is that we want to turn this partnership to inform citizens in concrete cooperation.

 “We as an opposition made a decision to abandon parliament, only such an action by the opposition will reveal the true image of a prime minister who wants to censor everything. The Audiovisual Media Authority, AMA will play the role of an investigator and the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority as the hangman.

“The depopulation strategy of the PM Rama, as the middle class, business, journalists are leaving the country because they are concerned for themselves, and their children.

“To silence journalists is a violation of human rights. We need to have a sense of solidarity with each other.

“Albania is expected to assume the OSCE's chairmanship, and the PM goes on with fraud and propaganda. It is an alarm bell, we do not expect much reaction from the parliament or international institutions,” said Kryemadhi.

The majority would approve the Anti-defamation package at the next parliamentary session, with journalists and media representatives warning of strong actions and asking for the help of internationals.

Journalists emphasized that the media should not be regulated by a law initiated by the government which is in a conflict of interest, but to be self-regulated.
