Holding Two Jobs

Holding Two Jobs

Any individual with 2 or more jobs earning less than 30 thousand lekë per post will now be required to pay what the government considers “their fair share of taxes.”

New changes to the fiscal package indicated that the income from multiple jobs will now be unified when placed into the government’s system. In this way, individuals working two-or-more jobs and earning, 50 thousand lekë in total, will now have to be taxed for 20 thousand lekë at 13%.

This is because there is no tax on earnings up to 30 thousand lekë.

“An individual who receives two incomes of 29,000 lekë from different employers pays 0 taxes on wages. But in the case of two or more employees, individuals avoid the formula of a progressive-tax formulation on their salaries by abusing the non-taxable loophole on salaries they receive,” said Delina Ibrahimaj.

However, this change will, in effect, have an impact on those who were not included in the scheme beforehand.

“From the verifications carried out in our system there are about 24 thousand individuals who are: employed in two jobs, or employed by different employers.

“These individuals are of various professions, such as: engineers, architects, economists, lecturers, consultants, even bakers. In many cases they are individuals in leadership positions,” said Ibrahimaj.

According to data: There are "some-35,000 employees" in Albania and 24,000 of them do not declare their income.
