Fuel Remains Expensive

Albanians continue to pay for the most expensive fuel in the region even though the dollar has seen continued devaluation for several months.

According to the Bank of Albania's history, one dollar has been exchanged below 110 lekë since April, but there has been no impact on the fuel price in the country.

At petrol stations, one liter of petrol is sold at 177 lekë. The dollar is the currency used to sell and buy oil in international markets and any fluctuation in that currency is usually reflected in the price of black gold.

Beyond this, Albanians are obliged to pay 7 taxes in one liter of oil, at a cost of 120 lekë per litre for taxes alone.

Citizens say they are unable to afford it.

Over the last few days, an action has been launched in the hydrocarbon sector aimed at improving fuel quality, avoiding quantity abuse through pumps and not allowing any non-couponing entities to operate.

There are a total of 200 entities operating in the field of fuel sales in Albania, and in the early days of the action there were several cases referred to the prosecution.
