“EU, Discriminating Against Kosovo”

The Minister for European and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, today, criticized the European Union's stance on visa-liberalization for Kosovo.

The Minister called the recent refusal unfair to citizens of the small Balkan country who, according to him, deserve to have the freedom to move anywhere within the European block. Cakaj made the statement during a press conference with his Swedish counterpart, Ann Linde. Stating:

“I also underlined the European Union's unfair approach towards the citizens of Kosovo. Kosovo has met all the technical requirements demanded of it and deserves to move freely within the European Union without a visa regime.”

Meanwhile, The Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the continuation of work on improving Justice Reform; the strengthening of bilateral dialogue and the fulfillment of the conditions set by the Bundestag.

The Swedish Minister stated: “The fight against organized crime and corruption are important and Albania must continue with its reform. All actors should engage in dialogue on these reform issues. The process must be strict and meet the conditions before obtaining membership.”

When asked about the French government's proposal for reform in the enlargement process of the European Union, the Swedish and Albanian Ministers shared the same view that the topic “sits on the table” and a discussion on the issues should be awaited.
