Earthquake Also Affects Lezha

Hundreds of Thumana residents spent a difficult night in the camp set up for them after the November 26 earthquake destroyed their dwellings.

They are not only residents of the three buildings that the earthquake completely destroyed, but also from other nearby villages.

They say they are no longer able trust to their roofs, but they also complained about conditions in the campsite.

Amid the rain and the lack of umbrellas, beds and mattresses, the residents of the camp set up in Lezha also passed through a difficult night.

10 building apartments and many more dwellings have become uninhabitable as a result of the earthquake the previous day in the district of Lezha.

Some residents have sheltered in tents located in the Lezha and Kurbin Municipalities, while others have chosen to stay outside of their damaged homes.

Lezha's Mayor, Pjerin Ndreu, and Prefect, Gjok Jaku, say the main focus is on identifying damages and sheltering the residents whose dwellings were demolished.

According to Municipality officials, citizens were told to return to their dwellings which were deemed as habitable, but refused out of fear.

They say they would rather stay in the rain than under a roof without security.

About 70 umbrellas have been raised by the army at the Fushë-Kruja Stadium, where families affected by the earthquake can seek refuge.

For two days, in three municipalities of Lezha District, working groups have been in the field to identify the damage caused, while the collection of aid to help earthquake affected residents continues.
