2019 is shaping up to be a frightful year for employees in the health care sector, with five cases of violence against doctors having been denounced only in this year.
Following protests from doctors, Prime Minister Rama promised to tighten laws to punish those who exert violence against doctors more severely, yet there is still no change.
And now, just last Saturday, another doctor was violated, this time in Lezha.
The Doctors' Order has demanded immediate action be taken to stop violence against doctors.
The delay in the legal amendments have been caused by the working groups who are still processing the draft law, which will propose changes to the penal classification of violent acts committed toward medical practitioners.
During a meeting with doctors, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, reiterated that individuals who commit violent acts against hospital employees will face imprisonment under the new laws.
