Debates on DP lobbying,CEC argues their position

The debate on DP lobbying contracts has now also inflitrated the meetings of the Central Election Commission.

Today, it was the Deputy Head of the CEC, Denar Biba, who appealed to the institution to broaden the scope of investigation on this issue.

However, for the head of the CEC, Klement Zguri, Biba is more focussed on issuing a a fine against the Democratic Party and not a further investigation.

"Speculation about the contract at CEC to be investigated," declared Denar Biba.

"You proposed a fine and not an investigation," responded Klement Zguri.

Despite their internal debates, the CEC institution issued an official reminder to political parties that the deadline for submitting the 2017 annual financial reports is the 31st of March and any failure to adhere to this deadline would result in fiscal punishments.

"Declare funding sources by March 31st or face fines," announced the CEC Spokeswoman, Drilona Hoxhaj.

For the past few days, the two main political parties in Albania, the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party, have been in a public spat over a lobbying scandal embroiling the Democratic Party.

Both the Prime Minister, Edi Rama and the Socialist Party he leads have sought clarification on the issue, requesting Lulzim Basha to face the prosecution's questioning on the matter.
