Cherries rotting on trees, Dibra's farmers complain about the lack of a market for their produce

In Dibra, tons of cherries are being left to rot on the trees, as farmers say they cannot find a market.

Dibra is one of the leading regions for cherry production in the country. Around 2500 hectares of land is cultivated throughout the region and this year's plentiful production has filled markets.

Farmers say traders pay up to 50 lekë per kilogram, while it costs them 20 lekë for harvesting.

Given the conditions of a lack of market, farmers say they will be forced to cut trees, as they did with the famous apples of Dibra.

Transportation of products to Tirana is difficult to achieve due to the conditions of the road.

The situation has been made worse as traders from Eastern countries did not come this year which has seriously damaged the farmers who are now throwing away their produce on a daily basis.
