Waste management

Waste management

Despite many efforts to manage urban waste, it continues to remain a big concern for the country and the environment.

The problem has been echoed by Minister, Blendi Klosi, who during an international conference in Tirana stressed that modern and efficient mechanisms for the treatment of urban and solid waste must be made available.

Klosi said that Albania is still far from the standards used by the European Union for waste management while stressing that this sector should be seen as “profitable” for the country's economy. Stating:

“We want to enter into the European Union with the Laws and Conventions, but we are far from a well-managed system. If we want to make a contribution to the European family, we must treat the environment in a European way.

The minister also announced that in the next two months cleaning operations will resume so that the tourist areas are ready and clean for the summer season.
