Police stop protesters, opened door to "immigrants"

The Police of Tirana refuse immigrants' request for rally in the capital in the last days of December, meanwhile the President opened the doors of the Presidency.

In a statement to the media out of the city of Korça, the Head of state said all immigrants are invited to protest in the presidential yard.

“Albanians have protested also in dictatorship despite the horrible costs and I do not believe this has happened, but even if it has happened, I want to say that all immigrants are invited to protest in the yard of the presidency,” said Ilir Meta.

Many immigrants who come to Albania during the holiday season had announced a protest in front of the Prime Ministry on December 28, 29 and 30.

But in the letter holding the signature of the Tirana Police Director, Kastriot Skënderaj, it is stated that such a manifestation required on December 28, 29 and 30 at different time intervals on the "Dëshmorët e Kombit" boulevard is impossible because it hampers the movement of emergency vehicles, the circulation of public and private vehicles of transport.

Likewise, the Police warned that for actions contrary to the law, the organizer and participants in the rally will have administrative and penal responsibility.

The President also commented on recent government decisions regarding student demands and protests.

“I believe enough time and energy has been abused to provide a reliable and long- lasting solution to the problems of higher education and students.

“I would support any sincere, and deep reflection in this direction, which means that the problem is resolved only through sincere, non-provoking, non-separator or intimidating dialogue and through a credible and constructive cooperation,” concluded Meta.
