Police co-operation convention, Xhafaj: crime and traffincking of human beings

Migratory movements have led to increased activity of organized crime and trafficking of human beings across Europe.

For this purpose, Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj has requested in the Police Co-operation Convention in Southeastern Europe the co-operation of the criminal police chiefs of the 12 member states to combat organized crime that has increased in the region.

"Serious crime, organized crime, terrorism and migratory flows are obviously the biggest challenges that cannot be overcome by any one country on its own," said Fatmir Xhafaj.

Also he did not forget to mention the fact that the fight against organized crime has turned the public view of state police to a graph of accusations and slurs.

"Due to the seriousness of the nature of these issues and how much is at stake for those who the Police react to, they often find themselves facing attacks and accusations, usually influenced by the criminal groups themselves.

"It is not only the police force that confronts this, but also the management and other teams operating in the field of order and security," said Fatmir Xhafaj.

Xhafaj said that there will be additional funds provided to the criminal police section.

Meanwhile the head of State Police, Ardi Veliu, urged the countries to cooperate in the region to fight organized crime.

"We representatives of police across the region and beyond we share the same view that the crime knows no boundaries and its battling it is a common struggle of all of us," said Ardi Veliu.

The meeting with the criminal police chiefs of the 12 countries in Southeast Europe precedes the ministerial meeting of the Interior Ministers in the region to be held in Tirana on Thursday.
