Lezha's mayor, Frrokaj stays under house arrest

The Court of Appeal in Shkodra has confirmed the decision for the security measure of house arrest to be applied to the mayor of Lezha, Fran Frrokaj.

However, the trial panel, with the relator Valbona Vata, removed the requirement for electronic surveillance.

The same measure was also taken for the deputy mayor, Enver Hafizi, the former mayor of the district, Gjok Ndoka, and for the other accused in the "Rana e Hedhun" file.

In an exclusive interview for Ora News, Frrokaj said that today's decision is a step towards freedom, after having the police supervision requirement removed and allowing him to communicate with other persons.

He did not rush to declare whether the charges against him are a political assault or not.

"Today's decision is a step forward towards freedom, justice. But I believe that full justice will be found in other levels of the courts," said Fran Frrokaj.

For Frrokaj's lawyer, the decision given is partly fair.

"I expected the court to change the decision. Our will was partly accomplished," said the lawyer.

The lawyer pointed out that Frrokaj continues to be the mayor and to perform his duties, despite the measure.

The mayor of Lezha, as well as 22 other officials and businessmen, were arrested on the 16th of March under the charge of falsification of documents and illegally providing titles for properties relating to about 230 thousand square meters of land, in the coastal area of "Rana e Hedhun".
