Court of appeal, 4 kuksians still in prison

Shkodra's Court of Appeal released 7 of the 11 Kuksians arrested after the protest against the National Highway tariff, holding the remaining 4 in prison due to their history of performing criminal acts.

In the re-evaluation session of the security measure, the prosecution had requested to leave in power the verdict of the Kukes Court, keeping all 11 protesters imprisoned.

However, the decision was overturned for the majority of citizens in question by the Appellate Body of Shkodra, after a session lasting several-hours accompanied by protests outside the court.

The decision to release 7 detainees was received with ovations, while the measures for the 4 persons remaining in prison triggered reactions in the hall and in front of the court, where family members and supporters were placed.

The process was undertaken with strict security measures applied and without the presence of the media, though it was attended by opposition MPs.

Speaking after the decision had been made; Edmond Spaho said after that the battle for justice will continue.

Protests for the release of the 11 detainees started at 11:00 in front of the Shkodra's Court of Appeal, which also marked the start of the hearing.

23 people were arrested following a protest that culminated with the burning of the tollbooth on the National Highway. Now, only four of them will remain in prison due to the decision by the Court of Appeal.
