The robbery of millions of Euros from Rinas airport has caused alarm for the Albanian Association of Banks.

Considering the event as very serious, the Secretary General of the Association of Banks, Spiro BRUMbulli accused the concessionaire of not taking the necessary security measures.

He added that the responsibility belongs to Rinas airport as, according to him, the fact that they were able to access the plane using a car indicates that security measures leave much to be desired.

“Yesterday's event is incredibly serious, beyond imagination, especially as the event happened on the plane and within a secured zone.

“This raises questions about the security of the citizens. If this case is closed as many others before, there will be an increase in the repetition of such events.

“There is need for security. As a Banking Association we condemn such an event.

“In my judgment, the responsibility lies with the airport, as entering the plane from a car indicates that there is much left to be desired. Banks have secured all monetary value,” said BRUMbulli.

He even stressed that, despite the security measures applied to some individuals involved in the robbery following another incident in 2016, many were, in fact, not implemented.

The Albanian Association of Banks appeals for measures to be taken to prevent repetition.

Regarding amounts transferred abroad, he says that everything is normal because of the domestic market demand for these currencies.

The robbery is expected to affect banking costs, with transfers now being considered risky. Consequently, insurance companies will likely increase their prices.

This will have an impact on citizens given that their financial institutions will likely react by passing on such increases through applicable fees and charges.
