DP &SMI Gather groups, DP votes unanimously for the burning of mandates

Following their leader's demand yesterday for MPs to renounce their mandates, the Democratic Party's Parliamentary Group held a meeting today which lasted nearly 3 hours.

In explaining his demand, DP Chair Lulzim Basha stated that members of the opposition owed it to the citizens of Albania as, according to him, the country is in a state of national emergency.

It has been learned that so far none of the MPs have expressed opposition to the termination of their mandates.

Even the former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, a main protagonist in Saturday's protest, has expressed himself as being in favor of the burning mandates, as well as any other action that the opposition deems necessary to achieve the removal of Edi Rama.

Berisha added that the removal will only be considered valid if the free vote is returned to the hands of the Albanians, adding that “if we do not reach a free vote for the Albanians, the country will remain a façade.”

Absent from the meeting were the declared allies of the Democratic Party, who will also be required to make a decision about their mandates.
